A thousand new faces carrying millions of dreams were welcome aboard a new voyage to a promising destiny of achievement and honour. October 28, 2022 would certainly be etched into the lasting memory of the new engineering students of batch 2022-23 as they received a welcome with high dose of positivity and warmth. .
College Chairman, Shri C. Valliappa, in his Presidential Address expressed the quintessential message for the occasion calling upon students to make their teachers their friend and guide throughout their student life so that they land into their dream destiny smoothly.
He wanted them to keep updating their knowledge so that they remain relevant and competent. Taking a leaf from Sona’s history, he pointed out how Sona founder’s ancestral home was being maintained well for a century. “Human knowledge and intellect also needs continuous maintenance and nurturing,” he stressed.
In his Special Address, Mr.Chocko Valliappa, the Vice-chairman of Sona Group, who connected online from abroad motivated the students with inspiring episodes and examples from practical life and current industry trends.
Mr. Thyagu Valliappa, the Executive Director cum Vice-chairman of Sona Group, stressed the need to be futuristic while upholding traditional values.
Welcoming the students and their parents, Dr.S.R.R Senthil Kumar, College Principal, gave a detailed presentation of the college’s legacy, growth, achievements in academic, research, sports, placements and also about the state of the art facilities including labs, R&D centres of excellence, incubation and innovation cells, sports infrastructure and encouragement to encourage emerging talents bring out their potential through various clubs and extra-curricular activities.
Dr. S.Sadagopan, Founding Director, IIIT Bengaluru, Chairman, BoG, IITDM-Kancheepuram, in his Inaugural Address appealed to the students to keep their vision broad while being strongly focused on their area of interests. He urged the students to make use of the facilities of the college to the fullest.
Mr. Manikantan Ramachandran, Senior Director – Hiring & Industry Academia, Partnership Initiatives, CSS Corp, Chennai, Dr. V.Karthikeyan, Principal, Thiagarajar Polytechnic College, Dr. G.M Kadhar Nawaz, Principal, Sona College of Arts and Science were among those who spoke. Dr.J. Akilandeswari, Dean/Academics, Head – IT &ADS gave the Welcome Address and Dr. B. Sathiyabhama, Dean /Admissions, Head, CSE, CSD & AIML proposed the Vote of Thanks.
The final year students who have obtained good placements shared memorable experiences with teachers, in classrooms and within the campus as a whole.
The induction of students into the various departments kick started on the same day.
With their expectations, fears, and apprehensions addressed, the freshers found themselves comfortably on boarded into the Sona’s family.
