Mr E.Chandra Kumar and Mr S.Hari Prasadh of final year EEE participated in “INDIA INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE FESTIVAL (IISF) 2018” held at LUCKNOW, UTTAR PRADESH for the project “INTELLIGENT EYE FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED PERSONS”. IISF is jointly organized by Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Department of Bio-Technology, Vijnana Bharati and National Institute of Immunology.

There are approximately 39 million people in the world, who are visually impaired according to World Health Organization, 2017. Majority of them are using conventional white cane as aid for moving from one place to another.  The major drawback in using the white cane is that the information is obtained by touching the obstacle using the cane.  To overcome this drawback, a cane with ultrasonic sensors to detect all kinds of obstacle irrespective of its shape and height has been designed. Hence it detects the obstacle and informs them with a voice command.

People who are visually impaired come across major problem in operating electronic devices. Hence this cane has been designed with wireless technology, such that the stick can be easily accessible, detect the obstacle in their path and inform them with voice instructions.

The main advantages of the project are,

  • To reduce the inferiority complex of the visually impaired persons.
  • Portable device and user friendly.
  • This device is battery operated, has a longer life and less maintenance.
  • Tracking and monitoring the blind people made easy.

Out of 2200 projects submitted in the IISF 2018, this project has been selected in top 100 and called for presentation at Lucknow. Along with them two more project members G. Dhamotharan and K.Abirami have supported for the completion of the project and also with the guidance from the project mentor Mrs.C.Santhana Lakshmi, with the support of faculties, continuous encouragement from HOD/EEE, motivation from the Principal and great support from Management.

Best and Frequent Readers Award

Best and Frequent Readers Award – Sep 2018

Sona Central Library is happy to announce the Best and Frequent Readers Award for the month of  September 2018.

It was a pleasant surprise to get an opportunity to receive the best and frequent reader award from Vice Chairman Sir, Mr. Chocko Valliappa. I would like to express my immense thanks to him. I’d also like to thank Dr. R. Malathy mam (HoD –Civil), Prof. A. Shalini mam and Mr N. Sreedharan sir for choosing me for this valuable appreciation.
Sona Library have been just an ordinary library for me until I visited for a reason, and once I did it, it becomes addictive. I was, probably the least visited student in the library until it came to my final year project work. A huge thanks to the Digital World these days, that has turned the Sona Digital Library deficient of nothing. Be it academic books, a book for reference, novels, magazines, local or national daily newspapers, national or international journals, you name it, SONA has it. It’s only as far as your imagination can reach.
I had joined an online course on NPTEL, and the major part of my time in the library was well spent in it. Not to mention, I was attracted by the library due to the fast internet speed in the systems provided over there. However, the peaceful atmosphere and being surrounded by all the reference books that I needed while listening to online lectures, enabled me to learn it better and faster. Probably, that’s the reason why while in Sona, learning is a celebration.

Fortunately, after enjoying learning from such an equipped library, reading and having motivation for learning something new, daily, have been the easiest and most productive habit I have cultivated inside me so far. Being a little specific about my reading schedule, last September, in there, “The Alchemist -by Paulo Coelho” was the best novel I have ever read. The way the author has explained the journey of an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago, in the book, and a moral, “believing it before achieving it”, was something that kept me calling back to the library again and again, because Sona library is addictive if you visit it for a cause, and in my case, I had so many.

(B.E –Civil Engineering, Final Year)

This is the spot where I learned a lot in academics as well as outside world. The spot is nothing but library of Sona College of Technology.
Library is a place where wide range of books and ebook resources necessary for learning, knowledge, reference and entertainment are residing. My college library encouraged me for learning independently and helped me exploring my interest in reading books and enriched my knowledge. It impacts positively on my achievement and academic performance. Library is a right place for the self-growth in various aspects like intellectual, cultural and artistic growth.
I cordially thank my college for providing me a great resource for my development.

M.Keshore of II yr / IT bagged the Best and Frequent Readers Award – Aug 2018

All will say gaining more marks may choose your career; but that is not the right. Of course marks are important, but how much knowledge that you gained is more important. All may say “Home is where your heart is”, but for me “Library is where my heart is”.
A person will never know the value of things when it is with him. When it is not there then they may feel. So, we have large collection of books in our library and the staffs help us a lot.  We all know “TIME is GOLD and TIME is PRECIOUS” the reason I have got this award is only because of time. Each second of your life may add more credits to your future, A person who has desire will definitely achieve success. The books I loved most in the library are “DNA of success” – Jack M. Zufelt and “start with why” – Simon Sinek. The reason for which I started coming to the library was for preparing for GATE exams and the good thing was the library is open till 8 pm. I really don’t know whether I deserve this award but I take this as a “Sign of Victory” for my GATE preparation.                                                                                                                      ———  Keshore
